Welcome to North American Amateur Zoo Photographers' Blog

Welcome to the North American Amateur Zoo Photographers' (or NAAZP for short) blog. This is the blog for NAAZP.com and is where we'll post zoo reviews as well as some educational tips. It's also where you can give us some of your tips.

NAAZP.com was set up to help amateur photographers take great shots of exotic animals in zoo. Most amateur photographers will never get to see many of the animals in the zoo in their natural environment. So we're here to help you get the great zoo shot.

We conceived NAAZP about 2 years ago on a whim after visiting a zoo on one of our photo shoots. It occurred to us that others might like to know about the positives (& negatives) of shooting photography at a particular zoo, especially since most amateurs don't have the opportunity to see the animals in the wild. Furthermore, would anyone really want to get as close to a rattlesnake in the wild as they can in a zoo? I know I wouldn't. Hence, zoos are a great place to see and photograph these awesome works of God.

The zoo reviews will feature various zoos and animal parks around the United States. Not all of the zoos will be large zoos, some will be smaller zoos and medium-sized zoos. We'll let you know (in our opinion) which sections of the zoo allows for natural shots and which sections that will require you to work for your shot. We'll give the zoo a camera rating as well as reviewing the educational aspects of it. And where possible, we'll give you a link to the zoo so you can do your own investigation.

Remember, the zoo has a primary mission of conserving animal populations. It's secondary mission is to educate the public. Providing an environment for taking great photos, generally isn't in its top 5 mission goals.

We'll be reviewing the following zoos over the next several weeks: Philadelphia Zoo, St. Louis Zoo, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pueblo Zoo, Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure. These are among some of the zoos that we'll review.

While we conceived the idea 2 years ago, it has taken us a while to get our act together. As with any educational blog, we look forward to what we'll learn as much as what we get to share. If you're interested in doing a zoo review, we have a form and procedure to follow. The best way to get a form is to contact us at dusty@tfe-ltd.com.
